In his opening speech director of the Russian House in Dhaka Mr. P. Dvoychenkov discussed the outstanding Soviet writer Nikolai Alekseyevich Ostrovsky, whose personal heroism and timeless works have served as guiding lights in the life choices of millions of boys and girls.
Nikolai Ostrovsky is truly a legendary figure. He did not let a serious illness defeat him; instead, he found his place in life and created the famous novel “How the Steel Was Tempered”-a unique piece of Soviet literature that became a symbol of the revolutionary era.
During a presentation by students from the Russian language courses at the Russian House in Dhaka participants learned about the life and creative journey of Nikolai Ostrovsky. He entered the history of Soviet literature as the author of the world-famous novel “How the Steel Was Tempered.” From the very first days of its existence, the book captivated the hearts of readers-especially those of Ostrovsky’s peers, who dreamed of universal happiness amid the trials of civil war and famine, as well as their children, who shared the same sacred faith in building a new society and later stood up to defend their homeland in 1941. The protagonist-a Komsomol member from the “twenties”-became a symbol of resilience, courage, and moral integrity.
Excerpts from the novel “How the Steel Was Tempered” were read to the participants of the event in Bengali.
