The Russian House in Dhaka organized a press conference today, gathering young media professionals to commemorate the International Day of Journalists Solidarity. The event highlighted the essential role of journalists and their dedication to the profession, emphasizing the need for their protection and the right to work freely.
In his opening address, Director of the Russian House in Dhaka, P. Dvoychenkov, welcomed attendees and underscored the importance of this day, noting that the annual press conference reflects a commitment to fostering collaboration between the Russian House and Bangladeshi media. He expressed appreciation for the continued support from the media in promoting the institution’s activities.
Dvoychenkov stressed the significance of standing in solidarity with journalists worldwide who face numerous challenges, including threats to their safety, freedom, and ability to report without bias. “We stand with journalists advocating for their safety and freedom, ensuring they can work without fear or preference,” he stated, acknowledging the sacrifices many reporters make to uphold the integrity of their profession.
In his speech, the director reaffirmed the Russian House’s commitment to supporting a dynamic and free media landscape. He highlighted the importance of open dialogue and mutual understanding in today’s interconnected world, particularly at a time when cross-cultural exchanges and international collaborations are more vital than ever.
A notable aspect of the press conference was the discussion of the Russian House’s “New Generation” program, which offers short-term study visits to Russia. Dvoychenkov shared that, in October and November of 2023, seven Bangladeshi media professionals participated in the program, while earlier this year, about ten journalists took part in the World Youth Festival in March 2024. The participating journalists expressed their gratitude for the opportunity, praising the initiative for fostering professional growth and international collaboration.
The event’s second half featured a screening of the Russian family comedy Cheburashka, directed by Dmitry Dyachenko. The film, a colorful return of a beloved character, captivated the audience with its humor, warmth, and positive messages about friendship and kindness. The director of the Russian House noted that the film screening was a symbol of the cultural ties between Russia and Bangladesh, offering a window into Russian storytelling and entertainment.
The press conference attracted more than 50 media representatives from Bangladeshi television, print, and online outlets. Attendees engaged in an open discussion with Dvoychenkov, who answered questions about the Russian House’s activities and expressed gratitude for the journalists’ continued support.
In conclusion, the event served as a celebration of the vital role of journalists, a reaffirmation of the Russian House’s dedication to media collaboration, and a successful cultural exchange, reinforcing the significance of solidarity among journalists globally.
